Hotel: Hotel Roet’ssli

Trip Dates: Aug 30th – Sep 3rd , 2014

Trip route: Swiss Rail ZRH – Interlaken OST – Interlaken West & Walk over to the hotel.

Hotel cost: $785.36 CHF

Booked: Via Booking.com

Notes on the Hotel: Good Breakfast options. Rates don’t fluctuate depending on the season. If you are lucky enough to get a room with balcony to view Jungfrau that would be awesome. Friendly owners. Don’t recommend doing laundry here just for the cost factor. Comfortable Space. Would recommend this place for anyone who wants to explore Interlaken. From our balcony we could see para-gliders in action as well.

Restaurants visited: Bennie Restaurant Chocolate Fondue(Probably had better ones in the US), Maharaja Indian Restaurant (ok), Shanthi Indian & Srilankan Restaurant (Good South Indian options), Pizzeria Art Pizza (run by Srilankan Tamil owner friendly & helpful), Icecream shop near Des Alpes.

Stores: COOP & Migros

Day 1: Love at first sight. Decided to rest for some time & walked around Interlaken West & took a train ride to Interlaken OST & spend some time in front of Victoria Jungfrau Grand Hotel & Spa. Big open area in front of the hotel. Perfect spot for people watching, Icecreams/Gelatto, Restaurants & to watch Para-gliders land & of course to let your little one run around in the grass area.

Day 2: Headed to Lauterbrunnen.  We decided that next visit here to this region we would stay here in Lauterbrunnen. We trekked our way from Lauterbrunnen to Trummelbach Falls. We weren’t allowed to see the falls with a toddler. So we skipped it for next time. Had a nice snack at a cafe near Trummelbach Falls.  Trekked our way back to Lauterbrunnen & got on to cableway to Grutshalp. We started our hike to Murren from Grutshalp through Mountain View Trail & Flower Trail. Our Uppababy G-luxe stroller was put to test on the hike. It was a great help as we strolled our way through the hike. By the time we made it to Murren, it was all foggy & barely spent any time but our toddler still managed to find a small store that was selling strawberries.  This still wasn’t disappointing but felt you were in a magical place. We could hike up more because of fog cover up. So we decided to take a ride to Gimmelwald & see if we could explore something around there but then again to our disappointment it started to rain pretty heavily. We ended staying inside the cableway station. With the time being already close to 6p.m  we decided to  catch the next ride down to Schilthornbahn & caught a bus back to Lauterbrunnen & on to our train ride back to our hotel. While we were waiting for the bus ride we did have some family splash time in the rain.

Day3: We were debating for a while whether we should try ParaGliding or HangGliding until we landed in Interlaken. We made a call & decided to give HangGliding a try. We emailed Bernie Herrmann with Hangglidinginterlaken.com on the 30th to check to see if had any open spots for us during our stay & he responded pretty quickly that he had couple of openings on our Day 3 of the trip. We were quite excited & the hand gliding experience lived up to its expectation. DW had the most fun. We did this one adult at a time as one of us had to engage our toddler while the other one is having fun in the sky. Bernie and his crew were awesome. They picked us up from the hotel & dropped back at the hotel as well. Never a big group of people like ParaGlidding. This activity consumed most of the day. We picked up lunch, relaxed the afternoon & went strolling again in the evening around Interlaken. If you were wondering about the cost, I believe it cost us both about $500 including the ride, video & photo package.

Day4: Finally weather finally cleared up to allow us to visit Jungfrajoch mountain top. We got in the first train ride heading up there. Train ride from Kleine Scheidegg was the most exciting part. One time visit is fine but wouldn’t consider this destination as a value for money. Had lunch(buffet) at Restaurant Bollywood. Terrible Indian food for the price that we paid. Pack food for this trip is our suggestion. We had spend some at the Lindt Chocolate heaven shop. This was the first snow experience for our toddler so he had a blast. We did check with his doctor before we took him to this altitude. We got bored after a while & didn’t know what else to explore  so we decided to take a ride back to Wengen.  From Wengen we got onto Cableway to Mannlichen. The hike from Mannlichen to Kleine Schediegg was the most exciting part of Day 5. We enjoyed the walk so much that we barely kept an eye on time. We were lucky a bit to make it in time for the last train out of Kleine Scheidegg. We hoped on the train towards Grindelwald. We strolled around Grindelwald & got some dinner & again got the last train out of the there to Interlaken OST. We were so late that there was no more train to Interlaken west. We were glad that we caught the last bus to Interlaken west, we were definitely in a state to walk our way from Interlaken OST to Interlaken West.  We had an awesome day & all three of us slept like a baby.

Day5: Checked out of the Hotel & got on to the Golden Rail train for our journey towards Lucerne. Had pretty good views in this route. We upgraded to first class. The only advantage was that the first class was pretty much empty & we got to sit wherever we wanted to take in the view & capture some pictures. Had a blast on this ride.

Thumbsup to Interlaken & Uppababy G-luxe
